Nutrition and Dietetics Clinical Reference Group

03.1 Prioritize Nutrition and Dietetics Clinical Reference Group: Projects

J. Millar

C. Papoutsakis

D. Pertel

@Jane Millar shared that the Nutrition and Dietetics Clinical Reference group has been officially approved. The CRG will:

  • Be the group responsible for nutrition content

  • Address areas of SNOMED CT that need update and development related to nutrition

  • Act as the group to facilitate changes and updates to nutrition content (eg, if groups, such as, IDDSI need future changes in content)

  • Collaborate with other SNOMED CRGs on issues and content of mutual professional interest

  • Maintain responsibility for the NCPT reference set

Projects Identified for the CRG were reviewed. Considerations for prioritization of the content which shall be undertaken with input with@Elaine Wooler:

  • Scope and resources needed and available for the work

  • The likely workplan (CRS vs work plan)

  • Implications of any changes

  • Benefits for SNOMED CT and other groups (ie, national release centers)

  • Those with implications for the NCPT reference set

  • Collaborations recommended with other SNOMED CRGs

Nutrition Reference Set

  • Order of the concepts in the browser for a reference set

04.1 Reference set update

D. Pertel

E. Wooler

The initial reference set is planned for release in April 2024 as a nutrition problem list (nutrition diagnoses) that could be submitted to the US National Library of Medicine. The goal is for nutrition intervention concepts and nutrition assessment concepts will be added to the reference set for release in 2025.

SNOMED's JIRA tracking system will be used to track feedback and/or questions received by the Academy/CDR and SNOMED. Responses by the Academy/CDR are needed for all queries.

Next steps include identifying possible FAQs about the reference set.

Initial thinking about the FAQ questions include:

  • What is a reference set?

  • Why is it important?

  • When will it be available, updates and changes?

  • Who is the set relevant to?

  • What’s in it for dietitians, other professionals?

  • How does the reference set fit together with other aspects of electronic health records?

Audiences for the communications include nutrition and dietetics professionals at large, dietetic practice groups (eg, those that use problem lists, nutrition content for implementations, Nutrition Informatics Dietetic Practice Group), information technology (IT) professionals, IT companies, and administrators in health care.
