D. Pertel

Members we welcomed to the call.

2

Agenda review and approval of minutes

  • 2.1 Minutes (also available by referring to the agenda dated 16 March 2020)

D. Pertel

Review agenda and minutes.

The agenda and minutes of the March 2020 meeting were approved by consensus.

3

Nutritional assessment vs. Assessment of nutritional status

  • 3.1 Nutritional assessment discussion document

L. Unangst

D. Pertel

Make a recommendation to SNOMED International.

The group discussed the concepts of Nutritional assessment vs. Assessment of nutritional status. No recommendation was made, so this requires further discussion.

  • From a data analytics perspective, having some groups select one and other groups select the other for documentation it can be a concern in projects that involve documenting a nutrition assessment. Unless both concepts are pulled for data analysis, it is possible for it to appear that a nutrition assessment was not done.

  • Some members expressed that they felt there was a distinction between the two concepts. It is not entirely clear, at this time, what the difference is between the concepts.

  • Members suggested that they would like to discuss it further with dietitians for their input on how they view these concepts.

  • The concept of 'status' should be considered in light of how other status concepts might be used.

  • Other professionals will also use these concepts and how might they interpret these concepts.

4

Revised observable template

L. Unangst

D. Pertel

Review revisions to observable template, A nutritional intake (observable entity) - in process

An update on the changes to template (linked at left) was provided. This most recent version includes a change in the Characterizes attribute to Administration of substance.

  • Two of the four routes (oral and IV) for documentation of intake have clear attributes.

  • Parenteral route (for parenteral nutrition) has not been approved by SNOMED CT as an attribute, so these concepts have to remain primitive for now.

  • Gastroenteral route is the concept chosen to represent enteral nutrition route concepts since this is defined in SNOMED CT has including everything from esophagus to anus; whereas enteral route only includes small and large intestine. Therefore, the concepts term will include 'gastroenteral route' in SNOMED CT with the eNCPT concept of 'enteral nutrition' as a synonym.

  • A suggestion was made to clarify the Characterizes template to narrow the options for clarity since there are many concepts within that hierarchy. Will discuss possible edits further with SNOMED CT editor.
