Combined disorders/findings and events

Example: 104051000119105|Accidental needle stick with exposure to body fluids (disorder)

• My initial thought is to make these disorders and model as Exposure to body fluid co-occurrent and due to needle stick injury.

Exception to naming convention for combined disorders

BGO

There are some combined disorders that represent named syndromes where if one applies current naming conventions results in a loss of meaning in the FSN

Examples:

Aspirin exacerbated respiratory disease (AERD)

Current FSN: 10692681000119108 |Disorder of respiratory system exacerbated by aspirin (disorder)|

Definition: Nasal polyps, chronic rhino-sinusitis, asthma made worse by NDAIDs

Diabetic mastopathy

Current FSN (suggested): Disorder of breast co-occurrent and due to diabetes mellitus (disorder)

Definition: Inflammation and fibrosis of breast due to type I diabetes mellitus

• Options discussed:

  1. Retain common name as FSN perhaps along with text definition

  2. Expand FSN to include true meaning of concept

  3.  

     • e.g.

       Aspirin exacerbated respiratory disease (AERD) = Nasal polyps, chronic rhino-sinusitis and asthma exacerbated by aspirin

     • Diabetic mastopathy = Inflammation and fibrosis of breast co-occurrent and due to type I diabetes mellitus

Felt option 1. could be used as a rare exception to current terming conventions for combined disorders
