Allergy model

BGO

  • Presentation at EAG call

  • Use of has realization with value of appropriate descendants of pathological process.

    • Potentially acceptable pending additional modeling examples

    • Allowable range for has realization is 719982003 |Process (qualifier value)|which subsumes 716234001 |Physiological process (qualifier value)|but not 308489006 |Pathological process (qualifier value)|. The latter concept is a descendant of 303102005 |Special disorder atoms (qualifier value)|

      • Can the range of has realization be extended to include pathological process and should pathological process be a child of 719982003 |Process (qualifier value)|?

    • Acceptability of defining top level nodes (hypersensitivity condition, allergic condition, pseudoallergic condition) with pathological process role which is then inherited by the descendant dispositions.

      • See Stefan's response on discussion page

        – follow-up to revised allergy model

Complications and sequelae

BGO

  • Presentation at EAG call and discussions with @jca and @pbr

  • Complications, sequela, secondary disorders are all examples of combined life phases.

  • The above are modeled using the guidelines for combined disorders, disorders caused by material agents and disorders associated with procedures.

  • For those concepts under the complication and sequela hierarchies there is a requirement for an additional parent of complication or sequela.

  • The interpretation of a complication and sequela may be different based on medical specialties e.g. surgical complications are not considered sequela and vice versa.

  • Proposal to retire complication and sequela and model/name all combination concepts using current guidelines for combined disorders/disorders+procedures while adding complication or sequela as additional descriptions.

4

Diabetes complications

BGO

  • Our general heuristic for diabetes complications is to make these co-occurrent and due to. This results in them inheriting a parent of 237620003 |Abnormal metabolic state in diabetes mellitus (disorder)| whether or not the complication is an abnormal metabolic state.

5

Complication of pregnancy, childbirth and/or the puerperium (disorder)

BGO

  • artf223789-Review concept: Patient currently pregnant

  • It is suggested that |77386006|Patient currently pregnant (finding)| be reviewed for retirement.

    • "Intrauterine pregnancy (finding)" is not a “Patient currently pregnant (finding)”, it is a "Pregnancy finding". This seems to be an inappropriate parent not only for this concept but for many others. "Patient currently pregnant (finding)" has descriptions like “ Pregnancy confirmed” but has children like Pregnant - on history (finding).

  • Pregnancy complications.pptx

  • Complications of pregnancy, childbirth and the puerperium.pptx
