Allergy model

• Discussion of revisions to allergy model

• Use of has realization role discussed. Currently being evaluated for use in modeling function observables. Range is processes. Can expand definition to include dispositions. Proposed value for has realization in allergy model is allergic reaction (disorder) and pseudoallergic reaction (disorder). This would require extending the range of pathological process to include disorders. A question arose at whether using a role group with has realization allergic reaction + causative agent would be equivalent to using has realization allergic reaction caused by substance (see below). Ideally, if role chaining was supported, precoordination of multiple allergic reaction to x concepts would not be required. Other option is to expand pathological process hierarchy by including allergic reaction/ pseudoallergic reaction process or maybe just use existing allergic process (qualifier value) and pseudoallergic process as value of has realization.
  Group felt that proposed model has merit but requires further exploration

Preliminary discusssion to develop model for pregnancy, childbirth and puerperal complications

• Two models proposed. The first uses the pregnancy time period qualifier value hierarchy and the second the proposed revisions to the associated with role hierarchy representing temporal periods. The latter seemed to be favored. The allowable range for these roles needs to be determined. Pregnancy, childbirth and puerperium are represented as observable entities in SNOMED CT but this may be incorrect. The following clinical findings may be appropriate values for the various temporal sequences expressed under the revised associated with role hierarchy:
