Follow-up from EAG presentation at IHTSDO business meeting

BGO

1. Continued issues with causality. Stlll felt that the looser definition (any point in a causal chain) was the better approach than a strict interpretation of direct causality. Due to may be used as offered by Stefan as a differentia to distinguish between simple co-occurrence and co-occurrent and due to and may be used as a surrogate to represent the overlap state (during and or after) without disrupting the co-occurrent pattern (i.e. if one is not sure if co-occurrent).

I have added current editorial policy on combined disorders along with Stefan's definition of "due to" to this site for reworking and clarification by the group. When comments received and document updated, will be reviewed by Penni for understandability from the modeler's perspective.

Final document will then be presented for review by the EAG

Stefan's definition:

This attribute is used in full concept definitions of a concept C’ as subconcept of C, having direct or indirect causation by some X as differentiating criterion.

(An indirect causation ….)

Anesthesia SIG working on operative complications

  • Naming convention for rare syndromes:

  1. Identify cardinal, always present parts of syndrome

  2. Spell out individual components, separated by commas with "and" before the final component: A, B, C and D

  3. If no cardinal features or spelling out individual components results in an unwieldy term, use eponym.

  4. For variants in which an additional specific condition is called out in an otherwise consistent grouping of disorders use: spelled out for or eponym as above co-occurrent with specific condition X
