A collection of use cases for certain language reference set features, for discussion at the Joint AG meeting 2022-09-28.
Description metadata use case
These might not be mutually exclusive! Use cases might also be addressed by combinations of metadata.
Scope/context
Examples: Default context, consumer, specialty context, data entry, ...
Presentation - show the term prefered in context X
Other standards - e.g. how to support designation.use=consumer in FHIR
Query ranking - weighting by context
Synonymy
Examples: (true) synonym, near-synonym, non-synonym, disallowed, dissuaded, ...

Language reference set cascadability use cases
Discussion here limited to language reference sets, but there is a relationship between cascading (as well as promoting) and general dependency between sets of content (where module dependency is one example).

Client-side flexibility (e.g. accept-language)
Precalculation of "flat" language reference sets
Reuse of translations (authors)
