Pathological developmental process (qualifier value)

Pathological developmental process (qualifier value)

Background

Email Received from Jim Case:

I am doing some revision to my "fast-track" document related to revision of the congenital disease hierarchy and have stumbled upon something that addresses a major issue that I had with retiring morphologies that have the modifier "Congenital" associated with them.

In many/most cases, the issue relates to the distinction between those types of morphologies that can occur as acquired and those that are developmental in nature.  I have had to work around this in a sort of kludgy way, but then stumbled upon a value in the "Pathological process" qualifier hierarchy that solves this problem for me.

I would like to request that the modeling group consider expanding the range of the values for "PATHOLOGICAL PROCESS (attribute)" to include the concept "Pathological developmental process (qualifier value).

The addition of this concept to the range of the attribute will allow me to differentiate those morphologies that are developmental in nature from those that are acquired later in life. This will allow me to greatly simplify my revised modeling of congenital developmental anomalies and remove a redundant subhierachy from the morphologic abnormality space in SNOMED.

If you need additional details, please let me know.  The use of this new term would be restricted almost entirely to the hereditary and congenital disease subhierarchies.
