Use of SNOMED for allergy documentation and decision support in an EHR

Demonstration of allergy content in an EPIC EHR

• Demonstration of use of allergy to x and allergy module using substances and products in EPIC EHR

• Allergy module is based on FDB and their SNOMED and internal ontology mappings

• @Bruce Goldberg and @Yongsheng Gao to meet with a representative from FDB at end of month to discuss how changes to substance, product and allerrgy content in SNOMED could affect decision support algorithms

• Requirements for adding new content

• Potential add: allergy to alpha-gal (galactose-alpha-1,3-galactose) - red meat allergy

• Belgium would like to use "allergy to x" for decision support regarding cross reactivity/contraindication rather than substances

• May test alternate models for allergy to x and y with decision support algorithms developed by Belgium

This is in ballot in HL7 now.  When the ballot is reconciled, probably about 6 weeks, the list should be available.
