Detailed design final specification

1. Review the inconsistent naming of 'X-ray' and 'Radiographic imaging' and 'Plain X-ray' concepts in the procedure hierarchy. See appendix B, all concepts listed will have their FSN inactivated and replaced with X-ray of X (procedure).

1. Propose a naming convention in order to improve the representation of these concepts in descriptions.

The descriptions will follow this pattern:
FSN: X-ray of X (procedure)
Preferred term: X-ray of X
Acceptable synonyms will include Plain X-ray of X, Plain film of X, Plain radiography of X however it is not compulsory to add these variations to a new concept they can be added upon request.
Radiograph of X is a broader synonym and therefore should not be accepted as a new synonym. However instances of released concepts where this description already exists should remain active to prevent the need for large-scale retirements of descriptions with the associated implementation burden this inevitably brings. This information should be incorporated into the editorial guide.
Duplicate synonyms on separate concepts are not acceptable unless the circumstances are exceptional and therefore instances of this will result in inactivation of descriptions.

1. Review the inconsistent modelling of 'X-ray' and 'Radiographic imaging' and 'Plain X-ray' concepts in the procedure hierarchy. It is recommended that the following concepts should utilise the action 278110001|Radiographic imaging - action (qualifier value) and act as grouper concepts:

1. Propose a consistent modelling approach in order to improve the representation and subsumption of these concepts and remove duplication. It is recommended that with the exception of the four grouper concepts listed above 312254007|Plain X-ray imaging - action (qualifier value) should be used as the method for the concepts listed in Appendix A.

1. Draft editorial guidance will be a brief summary of these recommendations.
