Spanish Namespace switch
Background history:
Instead of using IHTSDO's CIS to assign SCTID’s in the Spanish edition, their translation environment is using an integrated utility developed before CIS to generate ids in real-time.
There are three long term options to resolve this:
1) use CIS to generate ids in real-time
2) reserve IDs in CIS registry, manage them within our application, and after release register the issued ones in CIS (or free them if they are not going to be used).
3) use a new extension namespace for the Spanish edition instead of using core ids. This option would require consensus building, but is a long term standing issue as it would uncouple the dependency and potential collisions entirely. The ID assignment process could use option 1 or 2 after it, but it would be safer.
In the short term, we’ve gone with Option 2 in order to to avoid any potential anomaly if we eventually ran an unused ID recovery script under the current sequence.
However, in the long term we need to use option 3 (alongside option 1 or 2 to assign the ID’s) - so the question for now is what are the benefits and drawbacks of creating a new extension namespace for the Spanish edition?
