URGENT: Separating ICD maps from the International Edition
Hi everyone
During our discussions on the upcoming transition to Frequent Delivery, we've identified several restrictions to the new process as a result of having to align the subsequent mapping efforts for each monthly release. This is because, at the moment, both ICD-0 and ICD-10 maps necessarily form part of the International Edition release package.
We are therefore considering extricating the ICD-0 and ICD-10 maps from the International Edition package after we move to frequent delivery. We would release a separate derivative ICD map package quarterly, containing all of the maps based on an identified International Edition package.
So, for example, the January 2022 Release would be published on 31st, and the related Map derivative package would be released a couple of weeks later (within 1 month of the dependent International Edition package).
This is still very much in the initial discussion stage, and so all we're asking for is your initial impressions - pro's and con's of the idea, and in particular whether or not it would cause you or your users any significant problems?

Sounds good - We already suppress the ICD10 map already
We do publish the ICDO map though, I expect we wouldn't change anything about that. It would mean there are periods where the terminology has more content than is covered by the map, but we have that anyway - because we don't extend either map anyway, but do extend the terminology.
It would be worth hearing from anyone who uses the map? They'd be the ones who could be impacted.

This proposal would probably not affect the current situation in Sweden, because I don’t know about any implementation in Sweden where SNOMED CT has replaced ICD-10 and the ICD-10 codes are generated from the SNOMED CT concepts. However, I don’t see this as an unlikely situation in the future. (But then we probably already use ICD-11.)
I assume that billing and similar things will be based on ICD-10 (or ICD-11) and not SNOMED CT in most countries also in the future. I therefore believe that there is a real need for up-to-date mappings form relevant SNOMED CT concepts to ICD-10 also in the future. Has there been any investigation about if our users would see a SNOMED CT release without an up-to-date ICD-10 mapping as a real SNOMED CT release?
