Currently using procedure concepts such as 171149006 |Screening for malignant neoplasm of cervix (procedure)|. Samples collected are not necessarily used for cytology. Specimens are collected in a “liquid-cytology tube”. This is first analysed for HPV DNA via PCR. If positive, that same sample is sent for screening for pre-cancerous cells. If negative, no cytological testing is completed. “Smear” in descriptions is also often not true. It is also getting more common for self-collection.
Suggestion involves including checks to help identify existing content during the authoring process (FSN and PT) by checking the all extensions browser. Similar to validation recently added to CRS system. Support from Hanne Johansen.
John Snyder asked for update on substance to organism attribute work and whether it is ready to come back to the CMAG for review. Monica Harry provided update:
