EMA Substance Additions

The EMA’s Human Medicines Under Evaluation list will be reviewed monthly to create relevant substances into the SNOMED CT Substances hierarchy.

Method:

Access EMA Human Medicines Under Evaluation monthly list 

• Filter to previous month

• Filter to remove column H: Generic, hybrid or Biosimilar = Y

• Remove outliers, such as:

  • Combination products. These are often older/existing substances going through the approval process because it’s the first time a product is using them together; e.g.,  “Sufentanil / Ketamine”

  • Vaccines. Tend not to display a true ‘substance’ name, e.g., “Rabies vaccine for human use prepared in cell cultures”

  • Cell therapies.  Tend not to display a true ‘substance’ name, e.g., “Autologous melanoma-derived tumor infiltrating lymphocytes”
