Use case 6: AI consortia

In 2021, the KBC project had contact with the EU-funded BigPicture research consortium (https://bigpicture.eu). BigPicture will, as they state, accelerate the development of AI in pathology by providing a large repository of high-quality annotated pathology data, accessible in a responsible, inclusive and sustainable way.

As the project is building a repository, it needs metadata in its infrastructure. For kidney biopsies it is looking towards (among others) the KBC system for coding and providing metadata to images. This case illustrates how KBC could benefit big image collections as well as biobanks or other research collaborations. (contact persons Amélie Dendooven, Sabine Leh, Renate Kain, Maximilian Koller)
