Event, Condition and Episode Model Project Home

Welcome to the Event, Condition and Episode Model Project Space!

The Event, Condition and Episode Project is an IHTSDO Project Group.

Purpose

The purpose of the ECE Model Project is to:

  1. Establish guidelines for differentiating discrete events from persisting conditions.

  2. Establish guidelines for differentiating concepts in the Clinical Findings hierarchy, the Disease subhierarchy within Clinical Findings and the Events hierarchy.

  3. Clean up existing content to be consistent with established guidelines.

Scope

The scope of the project is:

  1. Representing the relationship between diseases/propensities/dispositions and their associated manifest processes and structural disorders – this has thus far mostly concentrated on the subject of allergy and allergic reactions representation.

  2. Representing combination/compound disorder concepts

Education of consultant terminologists on combined disorder concept model; Revision/clarification of editorial guide

Accomplished in 2016. Will require ongoing updates

Addressing "caused by" pattern

Pattern 2: Y substance/organism + X disorder - 4,000 concepts have been identified. The plan is to make batch changes for July 2016 release based on resources and capacity of technical team

Remediate 1,500 concepts for July 2017 batch change

Addressing other patterns (X due to Y, X after Y, X co-occurrent with Y, X co-occurrent and due to Y)

Evaluate and refine solutions for each pattern - July 2016

For July 2017 release, remediate modeling of concepts with "associated with" in FSN (800 concepts)

Evaluate proposal for representing association between disorder and procedure by following attributes: Associate with, During

Evaluate and refine proposal - July 2016

Accomplished. Currently in test phase of modeling. Plan for revision of content by Jan 2018

Allergy project: The allergy project has utilized SDP (Structure/Disposition/Process) model for reorganization of hierarchical structure for allergy-related content in SNOMED CT

Updating of editorial guidance to align with current content for Hypersensitivity condition, allergy, allergic reaction - July 2016

Proposal and evaluation of changes to concept model for allergy/hypersensitivity - July 2016

Dependencies:

  1. Further discussion on concept model tooling development to support batch change

  2. Review the scope and time for delivery, July 2017 or Jan 2018
