2

 HIV complications

@Bruce Goldberg, @Yongsheng Gao

Domain specific guidelines for combined disorders

Model 420721002 |Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome-associated disorder (disorder)| and its subtypes as co-occurrent and due to 62479008 |Acquired immune deficiency syndrome (disorder)| with additional parent of complication

Model infectious complications of acquired immune deficiency syndrome as co-occurrent and due to 62479008 |Acquired immune deficiency syndrome (disorder)| with additional parents of complication and secondary infection and a causative relationship to the organism causing the secondary infection

3

Revision of “Pathologic process (qualifier value) hierarchy

@Bruce Goldberg

@Jim Case

Coordinate with Event-condition-episode changes (Structure-disposition-process proposal), and coordinate with ASSOCIATED-MORPHOLOGY modeling

  • Iatrogenic disorders

Goal is to provide distinction between the originating process of a disorder and the structural abnormalities that are a result of that originating cause.

Decision reached to :

  1. Redefine 370135005 |Pathological process (attribute)| as “mode of origin of any disease.

  2. Merge the 308489006 |Pathological process (qualifier value)| and 303109001 |Pathogeneses (qualifier value)| hierarchies

  3. Model diseases with know origins and resulting structural abnormalities with both pathological process and associated morphology relationships

4

Complications_secondary disorders and material agents

@Bruce Goldberg

@Jim Case

Discussion of complications caused by material agents

  • Is a complication caused by a drug an adverse reaction?

  • Modeling of secondary diseases

  • Complications of material agents and administration procedures

  • Complications of physical agents and medications will be considered to be adverse reactions and secondary diseases

  • Secondary diseases will be modeled using GCIs

6

Combined disorders represented with preceding adjectival modifiers

@Bruce Goldberg

@Jim Case

  • Relates to topic 3 (Revision of “Pathologic process (qualifier value) hierarchy) above

  • Deciding when to use pathologic process vs. associated morphology

  • If preceding adjective is a pathological process (as currently represented under 308489006 |Pathological process (qualifier value)| or appropriate for addition), model using a pathological process relationship.

  • If preceding adjective is a a disorder, model as a combined disorder

7

Modeling combined disorders with events

@Bruce Goldberg

  • Disorders due to events

  • Events with causative factors

  • Disorders due to events can be modeled using the "due to" relationship

  • Proposed that events due to or caused by disorders, material agents, procedures, other events be fully defined in the events hierarchy using due to or caused by relationships

  • The definition of event needs to be refined and clarified in order to distinguish in some cases fro findings/disorders and the event hierarchy needs to be reviewed for appropriate content
